The opposition to their union is opposed like in any other love story, and yet the supporters are not like any other. Shivakumar, a tea vendor in Koppal railway station, fell in love with Radhika three years ago. And the couple married on June 20, amidst stiff opposition from the groom's family. Today, the couple have been banished from the family. The reason? Radhika is a transgender. When bfirst.in spoke to Shivakumar’s relative Fakirappa, he said he was upset with Shivakumar’s decision. “He has not come home since three days and kept us in dark about his marriage. How can we approve the marriage? What about our family’s future generation,” he asked. But Shivakumar is firm on his decision. “We have been going around for three years. I will not leave her at any cost,” he says. Shivakumar is a resident of Gadageri in Yelburga taluk and was selling tea along with Fakirappa at the railway station when he met Radhika. The case has generated much curiosity in Koppal town. And the transgenders in the town have pledged their support to the couple. They have now gathered at the Koppal police station to urge the police to lodge a complaint against Shivakumar’s family in Koppal police station.
