The Sessions Court on October 2010 had awarded life imprisonment to Shivakumar. However, challenging the order, the cab driver had appealed against the order in the High Court. On Tuesday, the high court turned down his appeal and upheld the Sessions court order. Prathibha was working with HP and on that fateful night, Shivakumar picked Prathibha from her residence in the office cab to work. Instead of driving straight to the office, he kidnapped her and raped and killed her. The incident had sent shockwaves across the country and had necessitated the measures to review security of women working in nightshifts.
