The central government had earmarked Rs 1,463.41 crore to provide free treatment and medicines to patients in referral hospitals, maternity homes and specialty hospitals under the NHM scheme. However, Ramesh alleged that, not even 25 per cent of these funds were utilised instead fake bills were submitted to claim 75 per cent of these funds. He has accused health minister Khader, senior health officers of NHM and BBMP of misleading the people and causing huge losses to the central government.Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada BJP spokesperson K Jayaram Shetty also echoing Ramesh’s allegations demanded Khader resign from his position. However, the health minister has issued clarification stating that everything is transparent in NHM and it is “not possible” to misuse the funds. He further said that for the current year, only Rs 66 crore was allocated for the scheme and allegations of claiming Rs 1,463.41 crore is far-fetched. He also stated that neither he nor the chief minister can interfere in drug purchase process as it has to be approved by three separate committees. He has warned the BJP leaders of initiating a legal action against them for making baseless allegations.
