Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have had a meeting with Governor with regard to the recommendation of Justice Vishwanath Shetty to Lokayukta. After the meeting, the Governor is said to have cleared Justice Shetty's name to the anti-corruption watchdog, reports Prajavani. It may be recalled here that Governor had earlier rejected three nominations made by the government to the Lokayukta. Even when Justice Vishwanath Shetty's name was proposed by the government, allegations were raised against Justice Shetty. Social activist SR Hiremath had alleged that Justice Shetty had submitted false affidavit to procure land in the Judicial Layout in Bengaluru. However, the state government had defended its choice and had promised to send the nomination back to the governor with certain modifications. The post of Karnataka Lokayukta has remained vacant since Justice Y Bhaskar Rao stepped down in December 2005 following allegations of corruption against his son.
