Gaurishankara swami, former Siddaganga math head, passes away

Submitted by Kumuda on Wed, 2017-01-11 11:35 Bengaluru: Gaurishankara swami, who headed Siddaganga math in 1988, passed away here due to multiple organ failure at the Kempegowda Hospital on Wednesday. He was 71.The seer was being treated at the hospital for the past three months, said a close relative of the seer to mediapersons.Born in Seethakallu in Tumakru district in September 8 1948, the seer had completed his BE from Siddaganga college. He was later made the math head in 1988. But he was soon ousted from the math following allegations of psodemy charges. This soured the relation between Shivakumara swami and the late seer. After being ousted from Siddaganga math Gaurishankara swami had set up another math at Gollahalli Gubbi taluk.However, in the later days, he had expressed desire to head the math after Shivakumara swamiji. He had even approached the court in this regard and the petition is still pending before the court.As the news spread, Siddaganga math administrator Vishwanath has written to the police to prevent Gaurishankara swami's devotees from bringing the body to the math or performing last rites at the math premises. He has also sought protection to the math.
