Lakhs of students in dark over delay in NEET exam
Adding to their pain, several fake websites have cropped up announcing the date
Bengaluru: Lakhs of students who are aspiring to join medical and dental courses are worried over delay in announcement of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) date for 2017. Worst, several online forums – that appear similar to the government websites – have cropped up misguiding the candidates about NEET exam date and guidelines.
According to the sources in the State Medical Education Department, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the NEET undergraduate exams in 2017. As per the annual schedule, students were expecting NEET UG notification either in the last week of November or first week of December. But till now there has been notification issued by the CBSE
“For the first time the NEET UG exam has been made compulsory even for the government medical colleges across the country. The NEET UG test will replace the state-specific government CETs,” said sources.
Lakhs of students from rural areas are expected take the examination this year. So, CBSE is now busy finalising the logistics for the examination that includes a notification of examination centre, hence there is a delay, said a source in the CBSE.
“Besides, there are lot of confusion over awarding ranks, preparation of merit list. Each decision must be taken after consultation with all the state governments. These factors are causing the delay,” he added.
Meanwhile, a few vested interests are taking advantage of this delay to cause panic among students. A couple of fake websites using National Informatics Centre’s name have cropped up announcing NEET guidelines and date confusing the students.
Aadhar mandatory for JEE candidates
CBSE has directed all the students who wish to appear for the JEE 2017 are directed to furnish their Aadhar details along with their online applications.
