Submitted by Rashmi on Mon, 2017-01-09 15:43 Bengaluru: The state government has recommended the name of former high court judge Justice P Vishwanath Shetty to the post of Lokayukta. The post of Lokayukta had fallen vacant following the resignation of former Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao. The government will send his name to Raj Bhavan for the approval of the Governor. Justice Shetty was a high court judge between 1995 and 2006. He was a chairman of Bar Council during the year 1989 to 1991 and was elevated as a judge of High Court on December 18, 1995. A native of Uppur in the present Udupi district, Justice Shetty was an expert in land reform cases and has delivered several orders in these matters. He was also chairman of Karnataka legal services cell and headed Karnataka Judiciary Academy during his tenure as a high court judge. Congratulating Justice Shetty, Subhash Kowdichar, vice president, Karnataka State Bar Council said that being a simple man with immense knowledge of judiciary, Shetty’s appointment will benefit the Lokayukta institute which is now mired in controversies. He congratulated the government for its good choice.
