Submitted by Rashmi on Wed, 2016-12-21 13:13 Mangaluru: Adivasis who have been protesting over the demolition of their hutments by the district administration at Diddalli in Virajpet taluk will be rehabilitated through Revenue Department, said Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai. Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, the minister defended the district administration's action which razed down the hutments. "It was necessary to clear forest encroachment. But the displaced adivasis will be rehabilitated," he added. He expressed displeasure over MP Pratap Simha who expressed support to the protesting adivasis. "When BJP government was in power why they did not clear the forest encroachment," he asked. Sandalwood actor Chetan who had been protesting with adivasis met chief minister Siddaramaiah at his home office, Krishna on Tuesday. He submitted a memorandum urging Siddaramaiah to look into their demands. Following this, Siddaramaiah has directed Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya to look into their demands. Adivasis have been protesting against the district administration at Diddalli in Virajpet taluk for the past 15 days. Meanwhile, a meeting to discuss Yettinahole project will be held in Bengaluru on December 26. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will chair the meeting.
