The rally was organised by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES). Many including the Belagavi’s first citizen, turned up in black attire clearly opposing the celebrations surrounding the unification of the state. They gathered at the Sambhaji Park and took out a procession till Hutatma Chowk raising slogans against Kannada Rajyotsava. Deputy Commissioner N Jayaramu told mediapersons here that details of their participation are being gathered and will be submitted to the government. If considered, the mayor and deputy mayor could face suspension charges from their responsibilities and the State government could supersede the Belagavi City Corporation. It may be recalled here that on an earlier occasion too, the state government in 2011 had superseded the Belagavi Corporation after its then mayor Manda Balekundri had participated in the black rally organised by the MES.
