Culprit set the main door of the 86-year-old church on fire and fled on Thursday. The church is uniquely designed, bearing resemblance to a Hindu temple. Although the church has suffered no major damage, a portion of its wall and doors have been charred. The police said that the CCTV footage image showed that the culprit threw a lit bottle of petrol onto the main door when he could not open the smaller gate. As the fire spread, he fled from the scene. Anoka, the caretaker of the building, noticed the fire as he lives besides the church. He rushed out from his home and doused the fire from a nearby tap. He was helped by neighbours in bringing the fire under control. Reverend Elizabeth reached the spot and the police were informed. Deputy Commissioner K P Mohan Raj, IGP (central range) Seemanth Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Karthik Reddy and DySP Chidanandaswamy visited the spot.
