A team headed by Hemant Nimbalkar has left for Madikeri to gather details about the case. It may be recalled here that Ganapathy had blamed senior police officers Pranab Mohanty, AM Prasad and former Home minister KJ George. Hours before his death, he told local mediapersons that Mohanty was harassing him and if anything happens to him in future, Mohanty and George be held responsible. While George had denied his role in Ganapathy’s death, he has also stated that he was ready for any probe. Meanwhile, BJP members led by KG Bopaiah staged a protest against the government in Madikeri. In Bengaluru too, Shobha Karandlaje and R Ashok held demonstration. The deceased Ganapathi was recently promoted as DySP from inspector and was posted at IG office in Mangaluru. Earlier, he had served in Kadri police station in Mangaluru during the 2008 Mangaluru church attack. Later, he was transferred to Yashwanthpur, Bengaluru. Ganapathy was facing a departmental inquiry for encounter of rowdy sheater Prashanth. However, Ganapathy’s brother had told mediapersons that the DySP was under depression as he was allegedly being harassed by his seniors. The officer would be cremated at his native near Somwarpet, Madikeri.
