Speaking at a function to felicitate the newly elected MLCs, taluk and zilla panchayat members of the party, the former prime minister said he was saddened over the recent developments in the party but vowed to strengthen it. MLC Maritibbe Gowda attacked JD(S) rebels N Chaluvarayaswamy and Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda saying they had cheated the people of Mandya. “Despite getting encouragement and support from JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda and JD(S) state unit president HD Kumaraswamy, the rebels are now turning their back on the party,” said Gowda. He also put forth two demands: that Kumaraswamy contest next elections from Mandya and Deve Gowda withdraw his statement saying he would be retiring from politics soon. Basavaraj Horatti, who recently set a record by registering seven consecutive wins, said the rebels were airing their views openly because JD(S) was the only party with maximum internal democracy. “I request Deve Gowda to instil confidence in the party and strengthen the organisation from the grassroots level. The so-called achievement of Congress party in the last three years is zero. The best chief minister Karnataka has had is Kumaraswamy,” said Horatti.
