Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-09-28 19:28 Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the decision to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as directed by the SC will be taken on Thursday after meeting with Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati. Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, the Siddaramaiah said the state cabinet had decided to release water only after discussing the matter with the Union minister. Siddaramaiah stressed that the government had no intention to show disrespect to the apex court directions, but had no option as it had conserve water to meet the drinking water needs. In the meeting, which went on for a marathon four hours, the cabinet also discussed the views of the opposition party members who appealed to the government to defer the decision to release the water. “The Union government has been directed to convene a meeting under the aegis of Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi, where the chief ministers of both the states should participate,” The CM said, adding that the attorney general and chief engineers and the chief secretaries of both the states would be present during the meeting.
