Submitted by alvin on Thu, 2016-08-11 12:34 Bengaluru: Senior BJP leader and Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council, DH Shankarmurthy is likely to be the Governor of Tamil Nadu. It is learnt that party national president Amit Shah is considering his nomination recommended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Party sources said since the tenure of Tamil Nadu Governor will come to an end on August 30, the appointment will be finalised within three days. Shankarmurthy, an erudite politician from Shivamogga, was elected for the first time from the South West Graduate Constituency in 1988. Again, he made it thrice to the Council consectively during 1994, 2000 and 2006. An active leader from the Saffron party, Shankarmurthy as a young leader had actively participated in “Bangla Sathyagraha” and underwent imprisonment in Thihar Jail. In 1975, during Emergency, he was detained under ‘MISA’ (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) for 19 months in Belgavai prison.
