Pinarayi Vijayan to become next CM of Kerala

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-05-20 17:59 Thiruvananthapuram: It is confirmed that the CPI (M) polit bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan will be the next chief minister of Kerala. Briefing the media here, CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said Vijayan has been selected as the leader of legislature party of the LDF. The decision to nominate Vijayan was taken in the presence of Yechury and polit bureau member Prakash Karat. VS Achuthanandan, who had evinced interest in becoming the chief minister, was informed about the decision shortly before the formal meeting of the State secretariat. "The only parallel that I can draw in the International Communist Movement is that Comrade VS is like 'Fidel Castro' for Kerala," Yechury said, adding veteran Achuthanandan will continue to guide and inspire the party. Meanwhile, Oommen Chandy today resigned as the Chief Minister. He handed over his resignation to Governor Justice P. Sathasivam in the Raj Bhavan. In the 140-member Kerala Assembly, CPI (M)-led LDF won 91 seats while the UDF bagged 47 seats. (ANI)
