The order was passed in spite of severe objections from the state’s counsel Fali Nariman. The Bench also directed the Centre to form a Cauvery Management Board within four weeksto resolve the water sharing dispute. Karnataka had earlier received two unfavourable directions on Sep 5 and 12. On Sep 5, the SC had directed Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water per day till Sep 16. This order was revised on Sep 12 and the state was ordered to release 12,000 cusecs of water per day till September 20.
