Police crackdown on erring autos, seize 408 vehicles

Submitted by Rashmi on Mon, 2016-06-27 15:18 Bengaluru: In an early morning crackdown on autos, the city traffic police have seized as many as 408 auto rickshaws and maxi cabs on Monday between 5.30 am and 9.30 am. The drive was carried out following complaints from general public against auto drivers. Police said there were complaints like demanding exorbitant fare, refusal to ply and not displaying mandatory identity cards from commuters.The drive was conducted in eight traffic jurisdiction in West division including Chikpet, Upparpet, City Market, Magadi Road, Vijaynagar, Byatarayanapura, Kamakshipalya and Kengeri station limits.Speaking to bfirst.in Jagadish, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Upparpet sub-division said, "Complaints on errant drivers were on the rise these days and we were directed to crack down on druivers who failed to comply with traffic rules.”It is learnt that highest number of autos have been seized from Chickpet and Upparpet – 100 and 81 autos, respectively. Similarly, 48 from City Market, 34 from Magadi Road , 35 from Vijaynagar, 54 from Byatrayanpura, 31 from Kamakshipalya and 25 autos from Kengeri.
