Yet, there seems to no hope for thousands of women who left their families back home to demand higher wages.Since Monday, these women have been braving scorching heat and sleeping on bedsheets laid out on roads with their children. They are not only braving the heat but also the continuous honking of vehicles. There is no proper drinking water facility or access to clean food. What did these tiny tots do to suffer like this?Women did not mince words when they spoke about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Umashree for their apathy. "We have been sleeping on the road along with our babies. Do they deserve to suffer like this? Just because we are anganwadi workers and helpers, it does not mean the government can deprive us of our right to have decent pay," said a protester. An anganwadi worker said that Siddaramaiah wasted no time in changing his vehicle every time a crow sat on it, but he had no time for them. "We expected minister Umashree to understand our problem. But she too has turned a deaf ear to our pleas," said the worker. On Wednesday evening, Bigg Boss reality show winner Pratham spoke to anganwadi workers and urged the government to consider their demands. Meanwhile, two more protesting anganwadi workers have taken ill and have been hospitalized.
