Is Mantri Mall really safe? Cracks appear in wall again

Submitted by Editor on Wed, 2017-03-08 20:20 Bengaluru: Barely a week ago, Mantri Mall - on Sampige Road - was re-opened after it was shut down when its rear wall had collapsed injuring three of its employees in January. But, a portion of the mall has developed a crack again allowing water leakage inside the mall, it is learnt. It may be recalled here that the mall's wall had caved in in January severely injuring three of its employees. Soon, the mall was closed down forcing the BBMP to withdraw its occupancy certificate. On February 12, the mall authorities submitted a report claiming the mall was safe to conduct business as it had met safety standards and norms.pollaroid-106Interestingly, a private agency has submitted the report to the BBMP after conducting three surveys. After going through this, the BBMP planning department provided the occupancy certificate and allowed the mall to re-open in the last week of February. But, with walls developing the cracks again, questions are being raised about the BBMP's urgency to give the occupancy certificate without verifying the safety compliance report submitted by the mall. Efforts to reach BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad went in vain
