16k biodiesel outlets to be opened this year

Submitted by Editor on Tue, 2017-02-21 11:18 Bengaluru: YB Ramakrishna, chairman of the national working committee for bio-fuels, said that as many as 16,000 biodiesel outlets will be opened in the country in the next few months, up from the present 3,700 outlets.Speaking at the valediction of the country's first-ever biodiesel adventure Eco Driveathon 2017, Ramakrishna said the move would create a demand for biodiesel oil seeds which in turn would help the farmers.Tracking the history of biofuels in the country, the official said that way back  in 1940, when the country witnessed a shortage of petroleum, 20�f ethanol was blended in Mumbai. "The ethanol was manufactured at Mandya in Karnataka. Since then Karnataka has been in the forefront of biofuel industry," he said and remembered the pioneering work of Prof. Udupi Srinivas, who had started producing biofuel involving local communities in Tumkur around three decades back. Ramakrishna said that 17 years ago, he and Prof. Srinivas had drafted the biofuel policy for the state, which later became the basis for the National Draft Policy.  The biofuel adventure winners B-30 category with the blend of 30�iodiesel - First prize of Rs.70,000 sponsored by IOCL in the name of Dr.Abdul Kalam was bagged by Dr. Prasanna Kumar and Rajanna of Mandya.Second prize of Rs50,000 in the name of Saalu Marada Thimmakka was bagged by Mayur.M and Harish.A.V. of G.K.V.K Bengaluru.B-20 category with the blend of 20�iodiesel - First prize of Rs.60,000 sponsored by Novozymes, in the name of Dr.Abdul Kalam was bagged by Dr.Gopalakrishna and Vishwa KrishnanSecond prize of Rs.40,000 in the name of Saalu Marada Thimmakka was bagged by Guruprasad.J. and Sachin.B-10 category with the blend of 10�iodiesel - First prize of Rs50,000 sponsored by MRPL in the name of Dr.Abdul Kalam was bagged by Ujwal and Sankshith SharmaSecond prize of Rs30,000in the name of Saalu Marada Thimmakka was bagged by B.Shridhar and M.Anil Kumar.Best quizzer and Best Innovative Award went to Miss.Thilottama and Udupi Srinivas.Planting the Sapling - First prize went to Dr.Prasanna Kumar and Rajanna. Second prize went to Vivek C.N and Ranganagowda Patil.Daring Driver Award (For driving car using 100�iodiesel) was bagged by Anjan Kumar and Eeranna.Best Vehicle Marshall award went to Akanksha and Mansali. The prize for the team which committed highest number of mistakes went to Anand Kumar and Sathish Chander.
