The civic body is planning to hire as many as 200 ex-servicemen as marshals for garbage management.Manjunath Prasad, BBMP commissioner, said ex-servicemen would halt dumping of garbage at unauthorised places and also "penalise habitual offenders".A few months ago, retired Brigadier SB Stalin, Sainik Welfare and Resettlement Board, had asked the BBMP to look into the idea of employing ex-servicemen as marshals for garbage management. "I have discussed the same with the standing committee of the health department and they also have okayed the same," said Manjunath Prasad."The marshals will be paid Rs 25000 per month and will be given petrol charges. We are yet to decide on the contractual terms," said Prasad.Prasad said the marshals would ease the burden on BBMP personnel who have other things to look after.
