The traffic department is tasked only to manage traffic. Now, we have decided to make BBMP, BWSSB, BDA, BESCOM work with traffic department on social media for smoother operations,” said Sood talking to the media.Among Sood’s first directives to traffic personnel were to avoid stopping vehicles to check licence and other documents. Sood said the move would avoid creating traffic jams. “However, the same rule will not apply to drink-driving cases,” he said. The commissioner said about 13 active civic battalions were hard at work to prevent murders, robbery, chain snatching and other crimes. “We will take residents' help in identifying such trouble makers. Apart from this, we are in touch with the people through social media and will use this platform extensively to bring public and police closer," said Sood.Sood also praised former commissioner Megharikh for cracking down on policemen involved in demonetisation-related crimes. "Previous commissioner NS Megharik did an excellent job by terminating them from police service. Such kind of behaviour will not be tolerated henceforth," he said.Sood also revealed that he had instructed officials to reduce the passport verification time to 15 days. "We are also planning to bring it down to 10 days,” he said.
