Like last year, the civic body said it would will pay Rs550 per pig. Dr Anand, Joint Director, Animal Husbandary Department, BBMP, said, "Last year, the BBMP paid Rs 550 per pig and this year we are doing the same. Between 2014-2016, we were able to catch 427 pigs." He said 110 villages, added to the BBMP's jurisdiction, had a huge pig population. "We had called tender notification twice in 2011 but nobody had come. But in 2014, a few applied. One pig can give birth to 10 to 14 piglets every month. Hence, there will be around 40 pigs in one year. If we do not take measures, then the pig menace will increase," said Anand. "The contractor who catches pigs can also sell them but he has to deposit a certain amount with the BBMP. "We will pay Rs 45 per kg if the pig is sold and the weight of the pig and other details will be registered in the BBMP office. At present, there are around 3000 pigs in the BBMP limits," he said.
