Renovated Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira still waiting for its first show

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-12-02 10:20 Bengaluru: The renovated Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira is awaiting its first visitors as the auditorium's rent, which has been fixed at Rs85,000 post-renovation, is yet to get approval from the BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad.A year ago, the BBMP had shut down the theatre for renovation for which a sum of Rs 50 lakh had been allocated. Due to poor maintenance, the rangamandira had lost its glory.MS Palaksha, Executive Engineer, BBMP, said, “We have completed renovation work. The proposed rent is Rs 85,000 for one month. This is yet to be approved by the commissioner."The rangamandira is named after renowned theatre artist Gubbi Veeranna, who founded the Gubbi Shree Channa Basaveshwara Nataka Company. Famous actors such as Dr Rajkumar, Balakrishna, Narsimharaju, GV Iyer, B Jayashree and GV Sadanand had worked in the company.
