Tata Motors has won the contract to supply the new buses which are priced at Rs28 lk for each bus. M Nagaraju Yadav, Chairman, BMTC, said the old buses will be taken out of operations in a phased manner. "As 900 buses have travelled beyond 900 lakh km, their maintenance becomes very difficult for BMTC. We will scrap the old buses in a phased manner," he said. Nagaraju further said the contract had been awarded based on the emission norms set by the Centre. The new buses will have 43 seats and LED board to display route information. “Tata Motors has won the tender and talks are going on. In a month or two, we may place order," he said. "Apart from the 355 buses, the BMTC had also proposed to induct 150 electric buses and another 500 buses (150 A/C and 350 midi buses) under JnNURM scheme," said Nagaraju. At present, the BMTC has 6,203 buses, including 700 Volvo and Corona buses.
