The BJP legislators sought to know why the government has enhanced the project cost while the steel prices have come down globally. They also accused George of hijacking the meeting. “The minister was in no mood to listen to our suggestions leave alone our concerns for the city. Whenever we raised our concern, the minister would mock and taunt at us, stopping us from going ahead,” said BJP leader R Ashok. “Steel flyover project is just an eyewash. The City is not going to benefit from this,” he added. Former minister Suresh Kumar blamed the government for being dictatorial in its attitude towards the steel flyover project. “This government has not taken the city’s prominent experts’ view to consideration. Historian Ramachandra Guha, scientist TV Ramachandra and urban expert Sri Hari have expressed their concerns over the whole project that will result in huge green cover. Yet, the government has decided to go ahead. This is a drama,” he remarked.
