Cauvery: Centre constitutes high-level team to study water situation in K

Submitted by alvin on Thu, 2016-10-06 18:58 Bengaluru: The Centre has constituted a high-level technical team which will visit the Cauvery basin, nearby villages and also Tamil Nadu as directed by the SC.Headed by Central Water Commission Chairman GS Jha, the team will submit a report on the water situation in both the states on Oct 17. The team comprises Syed Masood Hussain, Central Water Commission, R K Gupta, Chief Engineer, Krishna and Godavari, Rakesh Singh, General Secretary, State Water Resource Department, and Shivakumar, Chief Engineer, KRS, and others.  The team will inspect Hemavathi, Harangi, KRS and Kabini reservoirs in Karnataka and is likely to inspect water levels at Mettur, Lower Bhavani Dam and Amaravati reservoirs in Tamil Nadu from October 6 to October 15.Union Water Resources Ministry Secretary Shashi Shekhar said the report submitted by the team will help the Supreme Court decide on the quantum of water that Karnataka will have to release to Tamil Nadu post-October 18, when the matter will be heard next.
