"Four years ago, two such incidents happened in my constituency in Shantiniketan and Garudacharapalya where an under-construction building collapsed. Builders construct buildings out of poor quality materials and sell it for a lesser amount. Strict action will be taken against officials and the owner of the building," he said.According to Mayor G Padmavathi, the owner had violated rules by building three extra floors when the BBMP had given permission for only two floors. "The BBMP had given notice to the owners in May 2016. But they still went ahead," she said, adding that action would be taken against officials and also against owners Vinay Kumar and Sreenivas Reddy, who constructed this building.BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad held two engineers responsible for the collapse and suspended them. He said despite the notices, the construction work went ahead. So the engineers were suspended for dereliction of duty. "The building plan was approved last year. This building has six owners. They have mentioned that RK associates and architects would supervise the building construction. But due to setbacks, we have a booked criminal case against the owners and also RK Associates."He also added that the BBMP would take-up inspection work and send notices to the building owners for violating rules in the construction of the building.
