As commuters increase, BMRCL decides to add 150 more bogies

Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2016-10-03 19:39 Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has called for tenders to add 150 bogies to the existing 50 trains to meet the increasing rush during peal hours.Speaking to the media, Pradeep Singh Karola, BMRCL Chairman, said, "At present, there are three bogies for each train and there are totally 50 trains. We have decided  to double thee number of bogies from three to six. Hence we have called for tender for 150 bogies."He said each bogie cost Rs9 crore. "AFD is giving us loan of Rs 1350 crore for this project. It will take 12 to 14 months to add the bogies. The tender process will get over by the end of this year," he said, adding that extra bogies will help in hauling more people."Every metro train has a capacity to carry 960 people. Once we add extra bogies, the trains will be  able to carry 1900 people at a time," he said. When asked if there will be any bogies specially for women, the chairman said the corporation would focus on women-only bogies after the execution of the present project.
