Submitted by alvin on Sat, 2016-08-27 18:16 Bengaluru: The state government is contemplating to provide compensation to poor families who lost their homes during the encroachment clearance drive by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in the City.Chairing a review meeting of encroachment clearance drive here on Saturday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asked the BBMP officials to provide details of poor families who lost their shelters. He is planning to award them suitable compensation, he said.Stormwater encroachments that restrict flow of water from lakes should be prioritised during the drive, he directed the officials. Besides, he asked the officials not to worry about the stormwater drains that have lost their original form or rendered useless, during the drive.Builders, organisations, developers or any influential individuals who have encroached upon the stormwater drains will not be spared at any cost, he said. Lest, people will suffer during the rainy season, he observed.On complaints that the BBMP is demolishing houses of poor families, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told mediapersons that the BBMP will not spare anyone who have their houses built on stormwater drains. The drive is being conducted to clear choked drains and prevent the city from flooding, he added.Ministers Ramalinga Reddy, Roshan Baig, Dinesh Gundurao, Mayor Manjunatha Reddy and Commissioner Manjunath Prasad were present.
