Notice issued to buildings adjoining Cubbon Park over alleged pollution

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-07-15 11:45 Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on Thursday issued show cause notice to buildings adjoining Cubbon Park for letting sewage into the park.Based on a complaint by an advocate, KSPCB officials inspected Venkatappa Art Gallery, Vishveswaraiah Industrial and Technological Museum, and Prestige Obelisk and asked officials in charge to provide details relating to outflow of sewage.High Court advocate L Umesh had alleged that the buildings in question were letting sewage into the park, thereby causing pollution and endangering the park’s bio-diversity. “Children come to play in Bal Bhavan.  The bad smell emanating from the sewage may cause infection. I had asked these agencies to ensure that the park remains unpolluted,but now there is sewage in park premises,” said Umesh.During inspection, Lakshman, Chairman, KSPCB, directed the BBMP and BWSSB to ensure that the tank adjoining the park remained clean, with only storm water entering it. KSPCB officials also noticed burning of solid waste in Bal Bhavan premises. “We have asked them to segregate solid waste and hand it over to pourakarmikas for disposal. If they continue to do the same, we will have impose fine on them," he added.
