The drive ‘Namma Mangaluru - Swachh Mangaluru’ was launched by Mayor Harinath on Thursday during the monthly general meeting of the council. Referring to the government order banning plastics, the mayor spoke about popularising cloth bags. “Initially we would be distributing over 15,000 bags to students of four schools. We have a target of distributing over 1 lakh cloth bags to the residents of the city. Tender has been called for the same,” he said. “We thought of distributing cloth bags among students so that they can convey the message to their parents too,” mayor added.
