Inaugurating the programme, MLA JR Lobo reminded everyone that the world was "global village" where there was "constant exchange of ideas and technology". "Consequently, there is a rise in bad habits,” he said. Stressing on the importance of parenting, the MLA said “Parents, especially mothers, play an important role in a child’s psychological development," he said, adding that in joint families, elders used to share their wisdom with children, but with the advent of nuclear families children were easy prey to bad habits. "Youth are the assets and the future of the nation, but youth are easily attracted towards bad habits," the MLA said. Kasturi Panja, V-P, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, said, “The drug mafia has extended its reach from urban to rural areas and society should prevent this evil."
