The community warned the party of backlash in the next assembly polls if the injustice was not rectified immediately. Billava Mahamandala spokesperson Harikrishna Bantwal said the community had no leader in the cabinet even though there were over nine lakh Billavas in undivided Dakshina Kannada district. Though the Christian population is less than Billava community, they were provided a seat in MLA and MLC elections. If Congress party refuses justice to the Billava community, how can it call itself a secular party?” Harikrishna asked and demanded to know the reason why Vinay Kumar Sorake was not replaced with MLAs Vasanth Bangera of Beltangady or Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary. “If Mallikarjun Kharge and Shamanur Shivashankarappa's family members receive cabinet berths, why there is none from Billava community? Harikrishna questioned. The Billava leader also attacked Congress leader Oscar Fernandes for creating misunderstanding between leaders. “If the Billava community will not be provided any position, we will teach the party a befitting lesson in the next coming election,” said Harikrishna.
