Ghastly accident leaves three killed near Mani

Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2016-06-13 13:02 Mangaluru: In a ghastly accident involving a KSRTC bus and Maruti Omni, three persons died on the spot and eight persons have sustained grievous injuries near Mani in Bantwal taluk on Sunday. The deceased are Tejas (22) of Bulerikatte, Puttur taluk, Varsha (19) of Mottethadka, and Sandhya (21) of Olamogru village in Puttur taluk. According to sources in Uppinangady police station, the Omni which was carrying garment workers tried to overtake an autorickshaw and collided head on with the speeding KSRTC bus – bound for Puttur – coming from opposite direction. The condition of the eight injured is said to be critical. It is said Varsha was a second year degree student in Bettampady First Grade College and she was working in a garment factory during holidays. The injured are Sharanya (18) Navya (18) both from Bannur,  Namitha (23), Nayana (19) and Pavithra (20) of Rotarypura, Yakshith (19) and Sumithra (20) of Kemminje. Following the accident, the vehicular movement on national highway 75 was blocked for nearly an hour. This is the second mishap on NH 75. On last Friday, five were killed when a container truck hit an autorickshaw and a car.
