Dalit leaders demand inquiry into fire at gram panchayat

Submitted by alvin on Wed, 2016-06-08 10:55 Mangaluru: Suspecting foul play over the fire incident at Laila Gram Panchayat in Beltangady taluk, Dalit leaders have demanded an  inquiry into the case on Tuesday.  "In order to destroy some important documents, someone at the gram panchayat must have set fire. To know the truth, there should be proper investigation into the case,"​ said Dalit leader Nagaraj. In reply, Superintendent of Police Bhushan G Boarase asked DySP Bhaskar Rai to look into the issue and investigate the case properly.  Release funds Dalit leader Shekhar demanded release of additional funds for naxal-affected areas of Beltangady taluk as the allocated fund has been spent on 13 gram panchayaths.  Dalit leaders also accused Beltangady sub-inspector of taking bribe from bus, bar and lodge owners and sought strict action against the him. Borase asked Dalit leaders to provide proper proof to back up their allegations. SC/ST meeting in taluk centres  The monthly SC/ST grievances meeting will now be held at taluk centres. Earlier, district level meetings were being held at Mangaluru only. "As more people from the SC/ST community reside in Sullia taluk, the next meeting will be held at Sullia," Borase added.
