Alert men avert possible train mishap in Mangaluru

Submitted by alvin on Thu, 2016-06-02 13:23 Mangaluru: Passengers of Ernakulam-Hazzrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express had a narrow escape thanks to two men who alerted the railway authorities in time about the crack in the track at Panjirel between Mangaluru junction and Thokur (Suratkal) station.   On Tuesday, Moses, a senior citizen was on his way to visit his property located on the other side of the track when he noticed a crack on the track. It was around 7.45 am. He immediately went back and informed his neighbour Harshith who rushed to the spot with a red shirt in his hand. He noticed that a train was coming towards Mangaluru junction and he ran on the track waving the red shirt. The loco pilot who saw Harshith immediately brought the train to halt. Later, the railway officials informed the gangmen who arrived at the spot and fixed the track. Southern Railway PRO M K Gopinath said the train was held up for 30 minutes between 8.05 am and 8.35 am. Passengers of Ernakulam-Hazzrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express thanked the duo after the train was stopped at Panjirel.
