Dry run in Udupi taps to continue, water supply every alternate days

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-05-27 18:01 Udupi: Residents of Udupi are reeling under severe water crisis as water level at the Baje dam across the Swarna river is fast receding. From Friday, the Udupi City Municipal Council has decided to supply water once in three days fromFriday. At present, water will be  supplied on every alternate days in all its 35 wards of the city, said D Manjunathaiah, Municipal Commissioner.Following is the detailed schedule of water supply: Ajjarkad, Kinnimulki, Tenkapete, Volakadu, Bailoor, Shiribeedu, Bannanje, Ambalpadi, Chitpady, Nittur, Karamballi, Kakkunje, Kadiyali, Gundibail (Doddanagudde) will receive water from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm.Indira Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, Badagabettu, Kunjibettu, Indrali, Manchi, Subrahmanya Nagar, Gopalpura, Moodabettu, Mooduperampalli, Sagri, Kodankur and part of Kodavoor will receive water from 9.30 am to 1 pm Parkala and Settibettu will get water from 5.30 am to 8.30 am.Besides, Kalmady, Eshwar Nagar, Saralebettu, Male Central, Vadabhandeshwar, Kola and part of Kodavoor will receive water from 2 pm to 6.30 pm, while Manipal, Ananth Nagar and Duglipadavu will get water from 5.30 am to 7.30 am.According to an officer in the CMC, water-level at Baje has already reached a dead storage level. At present, water was being pumped from a pit on the riverbed of the Swarna at Puttige Bridge. This water was enough for two days. Besides, water available in another pit near the Puttige Math area is enough for four or five days. “Roughly, we have water for about 12 days,” he said.“We hope catchment areas will receive rainfall in the next 10-12 days,” he said.
