For, Dakshina Kannada district administration is all set for monsoon season fishing ban in coastal areas between June 1 and July 31. The period allows breeding of fish, hence, mechanised boats are banned from venturing into the sea. During this period, fish will be imported from neighbouring states and the city receives majority of fish from Kerala which are priced at least 25 per cent more. The ban restricts all kinds of mechanized boats with engines - outboard as well as on board - above 10 HP from venturing into the sea for fishing. However, conventional boats and those fitted with outboard engines up to 10 HP can be used for fishing. Violators could face strict action, officials said.
