The RTO at Surathkal was one of the seven new RTOs that chief minister Siddaramaiah announced, four years ago. On Thursday, Shivaraj B Patil, joint commissioner of transport, Shivamogga division inspected the site for the proposed RTO at Surathkal near Nilgiris supermarket. pollaroid-100 The new RTO is expected to meet the demands of vehicle users from Mulki, Moodbidri and Surathkal. In fact, the six RTOs have already begun functioning at Tarikere, Madhugiri, Ramanagar, Dandeli, Hubballi and Devanahalli but technical and administrative glitches delayed Surathkal RTO. Around 30 per cent of existing staff from Mangaluru RTO will be shifted to the new RTO. "The issue of sanctioning regular staff for the new RTO at Surathkal is at the final stages," said Shivaraj Patil.
