Mangaluru MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, ZP president Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Ganesh Rao, former minister Krishna J Palemar, Yogish Bhat and others took part in the hunger strike. Charukeerthi Bhattaraka swamiji of Moodbidri criticised the government for going ahead with the project, despite experts pointing at its technical faults. "The project, if implemented, will have an adverse impact on the district. I appeal Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to revoke this project," he said. "Due to lack of rain, Mangaluru and Bantwal are facing severe drought. The project will further cause harm to the district," observed Sri Rajashekharananda Swami of Gurupur Vajradehi Math. Odiyoor Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji said, "We are not against providing water to Kolar but we need to look into the consequences of the project."
