Chris Gayle, who is the brand ambassador for Smirnoff, was in city to unveil a new Smirnoff product. Ramesh Shetty, manager of Wine Gate, welcomed Gayle by offering tender coconut. Cricket enthusiasts, including youngsters and children thronged Wine Gate to see their favourite cricketer. Speaking about Mangaluru, Chris Gayle said, "It is nice to be in Mangaluru. It is not Bengaluru, but it’s Mangaluru, with just a letter being the difference and just loving it being here". The crowd was super excited and wamted to take selfies and autographs from Chris Gayle. But due to the presence of large gathering, he could not interact much with fans, and had to keep visit down to just 15 minutes. Cricket enthusiasts were disappointed that they could not make their day memorable. Gayle then proceeded to Madhuvan Village restaurant in Yeyyadi where he had lunch.
