Crime fighting receives boost as city cops get 25 new patrol vehicles

After flagging off the vehicles, Parameshwar said the new vehicles would enable the police to perform their duty “efficiently” as they would be able to reach crime scene quickly at any time.

Mangaluru: The city police on Thursday received 25 high-tech Maruti Ertiga Hoysala police patrol vehicles to fight crime. The vehicles were handed over to the police by Home Minister G Parameshwara.

After flagging off the vehicles, Parameshwar said the new vehicles would enable the police to perform their duty “efficiently” as they would be able to reach crime scene quickly at any time.

“Mangaluru is the second city in the state to have such vehicles. In coming weeks, we will flag off such vehicles in other districts as well. Our aim is to safeguard general public,” he said and called for strengthening of police beat system.

“These vehicles should be used only for patrolling as they are equipped with all the modern gadgets which are directly connected to the control room,” said Parameshwara.

The home minister said the government would appoint women police for the safety of women.  “We are taking all the measures to fill 21,000 posts in the police department. We have already recruited 16,000 police constables and already 75% have completed their training and sent to the various police stations,” he said.

Parameshwara said the police department had also appointed “100 Sub-Inspectors”. “We have taken all the measures to provide necessary facilities to the police department. As many as 11,212 constables and head constables have been given promotions. Earlier, it took 22 years to get a promotion but henceforth every constable will retire as an ASI or circle inspector,” said the home minister.
