Yes, you read it right. Nagaraja Mestha of Shirur, on the borders of Uttar Kannada, was upset with animals raiding on his plantation. There have been days when he had to chase away deers, monkeys and even peacocks to save his crop. But now, he has turned his dog into a tiger, albeit in appearance. He has painted black strips using hair dye on his brown dog that resembles a tiger. Many a times, the locals have had their share of shock when he takes his chained dog for a walk. "At first glance, many have mistaken it for a tiger. But, they get comfortable when I tell the truth," says Nagaraj, who has a degree in Mechanics from ITI. He is an artist too. With his dog in new avatar guarding his plantation, his crops are now saved from the raiders. The menace has subsided, gradually, according to Nagaraj. But does he think his new 'art' would really fool the wild animals? "Animals have a great sensory perception. They might be tricked by its appearance but they will know the truth, if they come near it. That's fine," says Nagaraj.
