The book will be a window to Poojary’s life – from a bright childhood to the corridors of power – that has touched many lives. Poojary is already giving shape to the thoughts and the book will be out soon, it is learnt. Known for his no-nonsense approach, Poojary never minces words even when it comes to his own party. He recently criticised Siddaramaiah government and other Congress leaders for failing to meet the promises made during the election. Yet, he is most respected and considered the influential leader of the Billava community in the coastal Karnataka. Not many know that Poojary practiced law before he plunged into the politics. Even during those days, he always took up the cases of poor agricultural tenants and aruged without taking any fee from them. He is credited for the construction of magnificent Gokarnanatheswara temple at Kudroli that attracts devotees from worldwide. However, he will be remembered for allowing widows and dalit priets to perform puja at the temple, for generations to come. He was first elected to the 6th Lok Sabha in 1977 from the erstwhile Mangaluru (now Dakshina Kannada) constituency. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1980, 1984 and 1989 from the same constituency. During the tenure of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Poojary had served as Union Minister of State for Finance and Union Minister of State for Rural Development. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1994 and had been a member till 2008.
