Normally, in cases of a grave nature involving more than one suspect, the arrested persons are kept in judicial custody separately, to ensure that they don’t conspire to destroy evidence, or try to reconcile their versions of the incident under questioning. CID had taken Raghavendra, driver of Shetty’s wife Rajeshwari, and Sreenivas Bhat, father of Niranjan Bhat earlier for interrogation. During that time, the prime suspects, Niranjan Bhat and Bhaskar Shetty's son were reportedly allowed to stay in a single sell in the jail. The CID investigators have collected the details of the accused sketching conspiracy, sources said. After Sreenivas and Raghavendra were sent to judicial custody, again the jail officials are said to have allowed them to stay in the same cell. A source said that the four accused discussed about the questions asked by the CID officials during the interrogation and also how to answer the officials if the same questions are posed to the others. An officer said that they are trying to weaken the case with the help of local and jail officials. However, Rajeshwari Shetty, wife of Bhaskar Shetty was remanded a women’s cell at the Mangalore jail. On Tuesday, CID officials requested the court to lodge the accused in separate cells as there is a chance of conspiracy to weaken the case. When counsel for the accused Arun Bangera Beluvai objected and asked for any proof of conspiracy, the public prosecutor Mumtaj informed the court that CID can’t reveal every information as the investigation is still on.  After hearing the arguments, the Magistrate asked the prison authorities to shift Niranjan Bhat and Navaneeth Shetty to Mangalore jail and allowed Sreenivas Bhat and Raghavendra to be in Hiriyadka sub jail. Earlier, all the accused were remanded to judicial custody for 14 more days.CID investigators are apprehensive that the jail authorities may yet allow Niranjan Bhat and Navaneeth Shetty to be in a single cell.
