According to police sources, after Bhaskar Shetty was kidnapped, the hotelier was brought to the house of Niranjan Bhat where a tantric ceremony involving the reading of Atharva Veda mantras (mainly tantric kriyas), which he allegedly used to cheat people, was performed in the presence of Rajeshwari and Navaneeth. Later, an unconscious Bhaskar Shetty was allegedly set on fire by Niranjan Bhat near the ‘homa kunda of his house on the orders of Rajeshwari Shetty. After that, the charred remains were packed into bags and thrown in three separate rivers along with his mobile phone, watch, pepper spray used to disorient Bhaskar Shetty and other items to destroy the evidence. According to sources, Niranjan Bhat told the investigators that he threw the remains into Palli Kalkar River near Nandalike and two other rivers near Kadandale. Earlier, Niranjan Bhat had reportedly told the police that he threw the materials in a single river, but now the accused has changed the version. The police are verifying the facts to account for the discrepancies.
