Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2016-08-08 18:41 Udupi: Astrologer Niranjan Bhat Asranna, one of the accused in the grisly murder of hotelier Bhaskar Shetty, has surrendered before the Manipal Police. According to reports, Asranna, 26, had surrendered before the Manipal police on Sunday night and he was formally arrested on Monday. The astrologer, along with the hotelier’s wife Rajeshwari and son Navaneeth Shetty, have been accused of killing Bhaskar Shetty by setting him on fire. Asranna, a B.Com graduate, had dabbled in the catering business and BPO before taking up priesthood. He was an astrologer too. Nieghbours said they were astonished at Asranna’s swift rise. From riding a bike, the astrologer began roaming in an expensive car said to be worth Rs16 lakh. Investigation After the Shetty's charred remains were discovered at his residence on Saturday, the Manipal police arrested Rajeshwari and Navaneeth and secured their custody till Aug 12 with court's permission. During the investigation, the police discovered that Bhaskar Shetty’s wife, Rajeshwari, was close to Asranna, an allegation levelled by Bhaskar Shetty’s mother, Gulabi Shetty as well. According to reports, Shetty, on getting to know of his wife’s relations with Asranna, allegedly berated her. Niranjan Sources said the murder could have been planned by the mother and son after they feared losing control of the hotel, which Shetty was planning to give it on lease. Therefore the two decided to eliminate him with the help of Asranna. Asranna had initially gone underground but suddenly chose to surrender to the police. The police have also taken his father Srinivas Bhat into custody to prevent evidence from being destroyed.
