BJP, JD(S) twisting facts in Ganapathi, Handibag cases: Pramod Madhwaraj

Submitted by alvin on Mon, 2016-07-25 17:50 Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, Fisheries, Sports and Youth Affairs minister and the district minister in-charge, lambasted the BJP and the JD(S) for twisting facts and trying to gain political mileage in the suicide cases of DySPs Ganapathy and Kallappa Handibag. Terming the suicides “unfortunate”, Pramod Madhwaraj said the opposition parties were using the suicides for “political gain”. “They only want publicity. Their leaders are not interested in discussing serious problems during assembly sessions. The government has handed over the case for a judicial inquiry and minister George has resigned on moral grounds,” he said addressing media persons on Monday. On the hue and cry over cases being faced by the CM, Madhwaraj said, “Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Ananth Kumar, Sadananda Gowda, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Jagadish Shettar, Eshwarappa and others have 30 different cases against them. In the Union Cabinet, many union ministers including Smriti Irani, Uma Bharti, Bandaru Dattatreya, Giriraj Singh and others are facing criminal charges,” he said, adding that JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, his wife Anitha Kumaraswamy and elder brother H D Revanna were also facing many cases. On the issue of suicides committed by police officers, Madhwaraj said 122 policemen had committed suicide in Karnataka between 2003 and 2013 as per NCRB. “During Kumarswamy’s tenure, 24 policemen committed suicide. When B S Yeddyurappa and Sadananda Gowda were chief ministers 13 policemen committed suicide. During Jagadish Shettar’s tenure, 17 policemen committed suicide,” he argued. “The Congress government has handed over eight cases to the CBI since 2013. But the previous BJP government did not refer a single case to the CBI in five years,” the minister claimed.
