Good news: Rs1cr sanctioned for new turf pitch at Nehru Maidan

Submitted by alvin on Fri, 2016-07-22 15:35 Mangaluru: The 20th Independence Cup Football Tournament 2016 got underway at the Nehru Maidan on Thursday.  Inaugurating the tournament, Mayor of MCC Harinath said, "In Mangaluru, the MCC has taken many measures to support football players so that they can play at the state, national and international levels. The MCC will take up work on the new turf pitch. Already Rs 1 crore has been sanctioned and Rs 25 lakh has been sent to the DC’s office to start the work." District Football Association President Aslam said, "The MCC has been supporting the football association for the past 20 years. We are very grateful to the MCC because even when different governments comes to power, they have supported us. When Abhaychandra became the sports minister, we approached him for providing us with a turf pitch. Jain sanctioned Rs1 crore for the turf pitch." Aslam also rubbished rumours of not allowing any public programmes once the new turf pitch was ready at Nehru Maidan. "These rumors are false. We will not stop anyone from having public programmes but the organisers should take all measures to see that the pitch is not damaged.”
